Together for a sustainable Ål
Bærekraftsarbeidet i Ål er et samarbeid mellom Ål kommune og Visit Ål / Ål Utvikling, i tett dialog med næringsliv, frivillige og innbyggere. Gjennom felles mål, handling og engasjement jobber vi for å sikre at Ål forblir en ekte og levende fjellbygd, der natur og lokalsamfunn henger tett sammen.
In 2022, Ål, along with Gol, Hemsedal and Nesbyen, was certified as a Sustainable Destination according to Innovation Norway's standard. This does not mean that we are finished, but that we are committed to improving year by year. Every three years, our work is reassessed and we must document progress in the areas of nature, the environment, culture, social values and local value creation.
Planer og undersøkelser
Reiselivet betyr mye for lokalsamfunnet i Ål og bidrar til arbeidsplasser, aktivitet og et bredere tilbud for både fastboende og besøkende. Samtidig er det viktig at utviklingen skjer i balanse, slik at Ål forblir et godt sted å bo, også når vi har mange gjester. Innbyggerundersøkelsen viser at et klart flertall ikke opplever Ål som overfylt, og at få peker på områder som er negativt påvirket av besøk. Derfor bygger vi strategien vår på tre viktige kunnskapskilder: innbyggerundersøkelsen, gjeste- og hytteundersøkelsen og medlemsundersøkelsen. Slik sikrer vi at utviklingen av Ål som reisemål også bygger et bærekraftig lokalsamfunn.

Vi tar vare på natur og kultur
Ål er en levende fjellbygd med lange tradisjoner innen landbruk, håndverk og kultur. Her produseres ekte varer som mat, kunst og opplevelser med røtter i naturen og historien vår. Vi tar vare på stølene, stiene og fjellene – ikke bare for gjestene, men fordi de er en del av hverdagen vår.
We work to make it easy for both residents and visitors to experience nature without leaving a trace. Our focus on trail cycling, hiking and mountain hut operations contributes to year-round activity and experiences that create ripple effects locally.

Environmental certification in Ål
Visit Ål / Ål Utvikling er Miljøfyrtårn-sertifisert, og vi jobber for at stadig flere lokale bedrifter skal bli det samme. Miljøsertifisering handler om konkrete tiltak i hverdagen: redusere avfall, bruke energi mer effektivt, velge lokale leverandører og ta vare på både folk og natur.

In Ål, sustainability is about action, co-operation and conscious choices that make a difference over time.
We work together with the municipality, the business community and the voluntary sector to take care of working castles and traditional culture, keep outdoor areas clean and cosy, and make it possible for both residents and guests to experience nature without leaving a trace.

Social sustainability - an Ål for all
Sustainability is not just about the environment. It's also about people. Ål should be a good place to live, work and visit. We emphasise well-being, security and community, and that value creation in the tourism industry benefits the local community.
Through the Strategic Business Plan (2025-2028), we are focusing on a vibrant city centre, new meeting places and local trade.
