Autumn in Ål

Trout shortage? Not in Ål. On Saturday, 40 kilos of trout, 300 eggs and 1,200 slices of bread will be turned into a sandwich that stretches a full 100 metres through the Ål shopping centre. The public is invited to watch the long loaf take shape, after which they will have the opportunity to taste the record for themselves.

On a sheltered mountainside above Ål lies Fagerdalen Støl, a living farm where the cows still graze freely and traditions are kept alive. Here, cheese is fermented, boiled and churned the old-fashioned way.

After months of preparation, it's time for the official opening of Tanken Arena. Markella will be the first to take to the stage, but she's just the start of a programme that will span more than a month.

For many people in Ål and Hallingdal, dog sledding has been missing. Now it's finally back. This autumn, Geilo Husky is offering dog sledding on bare ground from Bergsjøstølen Fjellstue in the Bergsjø area.

On Saturday 27 September, Ål town centre will be transformed into a bustling autumn market. Between stalls full of local food, crafts and bargains, visitors can also take part in something very special: the attempt to set a Norwegian record for the world's longest trout sandwich.
