You don't always have to go far out of the centre to have a nice nature experience.

Sundre Mountain is a good choice if you want to start gently. The hike begins right by Ål town centre and goes up through the forest to a great viewpoint over Sundre and Strandafjorden. The hike is about two kilometres return.

Rosengardshovda is a short and easy hike with views towards Hallingskarvet and further out over Hallingdal.

Experience the Bergsjø area

Three of the trips are located in the Bergsjø area, surrounded by open mountain terrain, mountain lakes and views towards Reineskarvet.

The trip from Toviki to Iungsdalshytta The walk follows Iungsdalsvatnet through open and easy-to-walk high mountain terrain. Here you will get a real feeling of the mountains, with quiet waters, mighty mountains and long mountain farm traditions. At the end of the trip, the traditional Iungsdalshytta awaits, where you can enjoy homemade food based on local ingredients and mountain farm products.

Rødungsberget A pass for those who want a relatively short summit hike with great views. The trail starts behind Rødungstøl Mountain Hotel and winds its way up the mountainside. At the summit, the landscape opens up, with panoramic views over the Bergsjø area and the surrounding mountains.

Mørehovda is a great hike from Bergsjøstølen Fjellstue. At the summit, you'll be rewarded with views towards the distinctive Reineskarvet. The hike is 4.4 km round trip and is well-suited for those who want an achievable summit hike with a genuine mountain feel.

On foot or by bike

On Votndalsåsen you will find two routes that are also well-suited for cycling.

Lyastigen is a gravel walking and cycling path that follows a gentle and undulating landscape towards Steintjødne. At Lyabrua, you'll find a swimming spot with benches and a fire pit, a perfect place for a longer break.

Stuvesethovda is a varied and easy-going hike on Torpoåsen. You can choose a short hike to the top or continue on the circular route via Hovdastølen. Along the way, you will cross the river Vola on a bridge, and walkways make several of the wet sections easier to pass.

Blessed, also called Gaukelinatten on some maps, goes through light and open mountain terrain.

For those who want a longer mountain hike

Gryphon is a good choice for those who want a greater.

Dyna is a great circular walk across the open expanses of Veståsen. The walk goes through varied terrain, from forest and bog to open high mountain, and offers that very special tranquility you find above the tree line.

Find the new brochure

The new brochure with maps, directions and practical information about all the tours can be found at the Ål Tourist Office at Ålingen Shopping Centre.

Choose your first trip favourite, find the postbox and remember to write your name in the trip book. Perhaps the next mountain trip will be the start of a night in the treetops or a sauna trip with your friends?

The new brochure is the result of good collaboration between several local stakeholders. We extend a big thank you to everyone who has contributed: SpareBank 1, MGS Hallingdal AS, Tveitehaug Gard, Skarslia Ski- and Toboggan Centre, TID kafé & landhandel, Kim Rudi butikk & kafé, and Ål Municipality.
