Start the autumn break at the Autumn Market in Ål
Saturday 26 September, Ål town centre will be filled with local food, crafts, artisan products, special shop offers and activities. The Autumn Market has been part of autumn in Ål for many years, and in 2025 the village notably tackled a 100-metre-long trout open sandwich. At this year's market, you can meet Ål Markedshage and Hallingpølser, among others. Here you can buy local products, meet producers, craftspeople and artists, and take home food, handicrafts and other goods from Ål and Hallingdal. There will also be activities for the little ones, so there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.
Final programme coming soon. Would you like to join as an exhibitor? Get in touch with Ola on ola@visital.no.
From autumn market to major cultural experiences
When the market stalls are packed away, the cultural day in Ål continues with two quite different musical experiences.
BREATHE at the Opera Barn
At 18:00 the trip goes to Operalåven in Votndalen. Where cows, horses and sheep used to stand, today there is a concert hall with a view over Hallingdal. This evening the room is filled with the six voices of PUST, with music inspired by folk music, jazz and vocal improvisation.
SideSprang at Ål Cultural Centre
Folk music has long had a strong position in Ål. It has been collected, taught, played at festivals and danced to through generations. Today, the traditions live on through, amongst other things, SideSprang, a social club for folk music and folk dance. On Saturday 26 September at 20.00, the evening continues at Sprang Scene in the Ål culture house, with Hardanger fiddle, folk dance, crash course, open mic and jam. Here, folk music is moved from the concert hall and out onto the club floor.
Cultural Autumn in Ål
The autumn break falls in the middle of an eventful cultural autumn in Ål. Throughout weeks 40 and 41, you can experience concerts, opera, lectures, art and performing arts at Ål culture house, Sprang and Operalåven. Here is the programme for the autumn break weeks:

Autumn holiday with activities inside and out
Between concerts and cultural events, there is plenty of time to get outside. The autumn break in Ål can be filled with lovely mountain hikes, dryland dog sledding and indoor activities when the weather dictates.
Three fine autumn walks
Autumn is a great time for hiking in Ål. Here are three nice hiking suggestions.
Mørehovda
The hike goes from Bergsjøstølen through open mountain terrain and small streams with views over the Bergsjø area and Reineskarvet. The walk is 4.4 kilometres and takes around two hours. After the hike, we can recommend the panoramic sauna at Bergsjøstølen Fjellstue, ideally followed by dinner and a nice drink.
Book sauna and dinner.
Sundre Mountain
The walk starts in the centre of Ål and goes up through the forest to a great viewpoint overlooking Sundre and the Strandafjorden. The walk is 4.8 kilometres long and takes around two hours. After the walk, we recommend lunch at TID kafé og landhandel, which serves homemade food using local produce.
Dyna
The trip to Dyna goes through open high mountain terrain via Mjelsnatten and Bispen. At the top stands a dial showing the names and directions of more than 100 mountain peaks. From here you can see, among other things, Hallingskarvet, Reineskarvet, the Hemsedal mountains and Hardangerjøkulen. The round trip is 9.3 kilometres and takes around four and a half hours.
Try husky driving on wheels
You don't need to wait for the snow to try dog sledding. At Bergsjøstølen you can join Geilo Husky on an autumn safari, where the huskies pull a dry-land cart through an autumn-clad mountain landscape. On the trip you get close to the dogs, feel the power in the team and learn a bit about how they work together. You also get to try driving the cart yourself. This is an exciting way to experience the autumn mountains, with speed, close contact with the dogs and mountain scenery along the way.
When the kids would rather go to the soft play area
There is a certain moment on many family holidays when an adult says «shall we go for a walk», and the children have a completely different suggestion.
At Topcamp Hallingdal you will find a good answer to that discussion. In the indoor play area, children can let loose in mazes, ball pits, a climbing wall and a slide. At the same time, both Hallingdal Cycling Park and Elvelangs are located in the same area, so when conditions permit, it is easy to combine outdoor activities with a few hours indoors.
The indoor play area is open from 10:00 to 18:00 every day, and tickets must be booked online in advance. Book her.
Bouldering when the weather is better suited indoors
When the weather is more suited to indoor activities, you can book a session in Buldretanken at Tanken Arena. Here, you climb on a digital Kilter Board wall, where you choose a route in an app and the correct climbing holds light up on the wall. The angle can be adjusted according to your level, and you have access to over 160,000 routes created by climbers from all over the world. The room is self-service, and you can control both the music and the pace yourself.
