The Nystøl church was built in 1894 by local farmers who wanted a place of worship near the mountain pastures. During this period, many families spent large parts of the summer in the mountains, and the church became a natural centre of everyday life in the pastures. The building still stands in its original form, with simple log construction and a cosy and intimate church room that accommodates around fifty people.
Today, the church is used for both church services and as a gathering place for events. Every year, two services are held here, one at Easter and one in the summer. These gatherings bring together locals, cabin owners, and visitors who wish to participate in the tradition. The church is also used for concerts, meetings, and smaller cultural events during the summer months. Many choose to visit on their own to experience the tranquility, enjoy the view, or use the church as a natural destination on a mountain hike.
