Shopping in Ål
You'll find almost everything you need in Sundre, the centre of Ål. There aren't that many shops, but the shops that are here offer most of what you need.
Whether you need new ski boots, groceries for your cabin trip or just want to grab a coffee, you'll find it at Sundre. A compact and pleasant centre with cafés, shops and little traffic.
If you fancy a breather, we recommend the freshly baked goods at Ål Bakery, delicious cakes and lunch dishes at Kafé TID or a juicy burger at Bear House.
But Ål is more than just Sundre. If you're heading for the mountains, we recommend a stop at Velvet, which is a 24-hour grocery store in Leveld. In the basement of the Velvet you will also find Leveld Lefsebakery, which makes homemade pastries and baked goods the old-fashioned way. Velvet also offers a good selection of products from Lefsebakeriet.
Ål also has several local food producers who keep traditions alive. Garden Oppheim produces stick meat according to old methods, and in 2025 they won the NM gold medal for unsmoked stick meat. Vats Gardsmat offers high quality lamb products, including fenalår, lamb wool and cured meats made from animals that graze in the mountains around Ål. I Fager Valley you can experience genuine farmhouse culture, with local produce and traditional craftsmanship. Together, these producers give you an authentic taste of the food culture in Ål, whether you're at the cabin or want to take something good home with you.
