Riverside walk at Ål Centre
Along the hiking trail Elvelangs (by the river) At Ål centre, there are two designated places for swimming. One is Oppsjø Vasspark, and the other is located right by the bridge across towards Ål station.
Oppsjø Vasspark
Oppsjø Vasspark is the most popular bathing spot in Ål. The bathing spot is located close to the centre, by the Ål sports complex, where parking is available.
The area has several facilities and good provisions for various needs. In the water there are floating jetties, a diving tower and a floating water toy that many children and young people greatly appreciate. The bathing area is universally designed and adapted so that as many people as possible can use the area. There is a ramp into the water, providing safe and easy access for people with disabilities, the elderly, and others who require extra assistance.
Adjacent to the bathing area there is sauna, day trip cabin that can be used for changing clothes, as well as toilets that can also be used for changing clothes. There is also a BUA branch in the area with equipment for water activities.
By the Station Bridge
By the bridge towards Ål Station, there is a ladder down to the water. You should be a good swimmer to bathe here, as it is deep and there can be a current in the river. Remember that Hallingdalselva is regulated and that the water flow can change.
Strandafjord
The Strandafjorden is located approximately 2.5 kilometres west of Ål town centre, in the direction of Geilo, right next to Topcamp Hallingdal. The turn-off is signposted from the RV7 at Vangebrua. Here you'll find a sandy beach with a diving board and a large lawn with good opportunities for picnics, swimming and relaxation. This is a family-friendly swimming spot with plenty of space for both play and relaxing summer days by the water.
Mountain lake
At Bergsjøstølen, you can combine a sauna session with a refreshing dip in Lake Bergsjø. This is a lovely spot for anyone seeking a peaceful swimming experience surrounded by mountains. The swim can also be combined with a meal at Bergsjøstølen, and is perfect both after a hike and as an experience in itself.

The river on Votndalsåsen
The bathing spot at Votndalsåsen can be reached via Liatoppen or Votndalen. Here you can swim in the river at approximately 1000 metres altitude, surrounded by magnificent views and open mountain landscape. The river is shallow with a fine sandy bottom, and along the banks there are soft grassy knolls that are well suited for picnics and breaks. There is a toll road for access.
Torpo
At Torpo, you'll find a small and pleasant swimming spot along the Hallingdal River. The swimming spot is well-suited for families with children, and it's a nice place for a leisurely dip on warm days. The area has benches and a bin, and in the river, there's a small diving board that makes swimming even more fun. There is also a shoreline and tables that are ideal for a simple picnic.
