When Rolf Nesch came to Norway as a refugee from Nazi Germany in 1933, he was strongly influenced by the Norwegian winter. His first major graphic work in this country, the Snow series, depicts the winter landscape as magnificent, vulnerable and overwhelming. Nesch himself wrote: "What strikes me first and foremost is the grandeur of nature, which is absolutely magnificent, the perfect beauty."
In Snow, Nesch's winter images are given new life through dance. The pupils at Ål kulturskule interpret landscapes, light and cold with the body as a form of expression, while art serves as both scenography and inspiration. The result is a performance that celebrates nature, children, art - and the ability to see the world with new eyes.
