The National Theatre: Words for blood

What happens when the people you love end up on opposite sides of a gang war? Based on Faysa Idle's book A Word for Blood, A Word for Blood is a powerful and highly topical story about growing up, violence and hope.

When those closest to you are on opposite sides of the war, who can you trust?
Words for blood is an intense and moving theatre production based on the true story of Faysa Idle. She grows up in the middle of the Swedish gang scene - as the younger sister of one of the country's most dangerous gang members. In a world without adults and with a loss of trust in both school and police, she finds herself caught between loyalty and fear.

Faysa's friends and family members are on opposite sides in a gang war. Some are dead, others have disappeared. I Words for blood she tells her story, with the hope of sparking much-needed conversations - about belonging, security and how we care for each other.

🎭 Dramatised by Seluah Alsaati and directed by Affe Ashkar, the performance highlights a story that both grips and challenges the audience. This is not just a story about gang violence - it's a story about being young, female and human in an insecure world.
