The concert will primarily focus on popular traditions of St. Olaf from various parts of Norway. In addition, excerpts from the visions of St. Olaf, as described by Snorri Sturluson in the 1230s, will be performed.
The concert concludes with The Dream Ballad, Olav Åsteson recounts his visions and what he has seen of the Last Judgment. Several Draumkvede scholars have mused on the idea that Olav in The Dream Ballad may be linked to the weekend king who died at Stiklestad on 29 July 1029. In some of the traditions of The Dream Ballad Olav is given the nickname Åsteson, which some interpret as «son of Åsta». The saintly king's mother was named Åsta.
