Torpo Church was built in 1880 as a replacement for the old stave church, which had gradually become too small and impractical as a parish church. The building is a classic log long church with a west tower and exterior panelling, and the interior has undergone several improvements over the years. In the 1920s, the church received its characteristic stained-glass windows with motifs of the evangelists, and in the 1970s, the sacristy and parts of the interior were restored.
The church has around 200 seats and is still an active and vibrant meeting place in Torpo. Services are regularly held here throughout the year, and the building is also used for christenings, weddings, confirmations, funerals, and various concerts and cultural events.
Since Torpo Church is located right next to Torpo Stave Church, many visitors choose to see both buildings on the same trip. The two churches show the breadth of local history, from medieval ornate wood carving to modern parish life.
