This short but eventful hike gives you the feeling of being deep in the mountains, even though you're only a short walk from the motorway. The trail follows the water's edge and takes you over Tovikstangen and on to the serviced DNT-cabin Iungsdalshyttawhich is idyllically located at the bottom of the valley.
The tour is suitable for families with children, day trippers and for those who want a multi-day mountain experience in the Norwegian high mountains. From Iungsdalshytta There are several marked trails further into the mountain, and the cabin offers genuine farmhouse life, good food and living mountain traditions in the middle of Skarvheimen.
Car park
Park at Mjolga, just before Toviki. From there, follow the road for a short distance until you reach the path that takes off along the north side of the lake.
Hike description
From the car park, first walk a short distance on a gravel road to Toviki. Here you take the path that follows the water westwards along Tovikstangen, in open and easy mountain terrain. After about three kilometres you cross the river Fossebrekka on a year-round bridge, and then it's only a few minutes until you arrive at Iungsdalshytta.
Tips
Iungdalshytta offers genuine mountain lodge life, warm hospitality and tasty local food. It's definitely worth sitting down for a good meal, buying something good in the kiosk or spending the night and enjoying the tranquillity of the mountains. It's a great place to relax and re-energise.
Iungsdalshytta is also an excellent starting point for several days in the high mountains, with marked trails to Kongshelleren, Geiterygghytta, Storestølen, the Bergsjø area and Djup.
