Raudbergsnuten rises high above Iungsdalen and offers a real mountain feeling. The hike is partly on an unmarked trail in hilly and rocky terrain, and requires both good orientation skills and physical fitness. In return, you get peace, views and the feeling of being completely alone on the roof of the mountain. This is one of the more challenging hikes in the area and a favourite among those seeking mountain adventure.
Car park
Park at Mjolga, just before Toviki. From there, follow the road for a short distance until you reach the path that takes off along the north side of the lake
Hike description
From the car park, turn off the main trail and follow an unmarked path into Mjølgebotn, a lush mountain valley surrounded by steep sides.
The hike continues up through Mjølgebotn and further into Mjølgedalen in the direction of Bjordalsbu. Eventually you'll reach Mjølgetjørne, with Raudbergskarvet and Raudbergsnuten on your right. From here you follow the terrain to Jøranvatnet, and then climb eastwards to the top of Raudbergsnuten, the highest point in the area.
Return the same way.
Tips
The tour is demanding and is best suited to experienced mountain travellers with a map, compass and preferably GPS. The weather in this area can change quickly, so bring extra clothes and allow plenty of time.
There are several great places to rest along the way, especially at Mjølgetjørne and Jøranvatnet, where you can also fill up with water or take a refreshing mountain bath on hot days.
After your trip, it can be nice to reward yourself with a meal or overnight stay at Iungsdalshytta, which offers local food and a genuine farmhouse atmosphere. See the tour description from the car park at Toviki to Iungdalshytta.
