Kulufossen

This is a short and varied hike that takes you to the mighty Kulufossen waterfall, one of Hallingdal's most impressive waterfalls.

Kulufossen is a steep and powerful waterfall that plunges down through the mountainside in a wild and beautiful landscape. On this tour, you'll experience the sound, power and closeness of the water, in an area that also offers magnificent views of Hallingdal.

Car park

Start the tour from the western car park at Topcamp Hallingdal.

Hike description

From the car park, walk up towards the dam and cross it. Then follow the road/path to the left for approx. 600 metres before going through the railway underpass.

Continue along the path and tractor road up Vestlia, in varied and gently undulating forest terrain. The trail runs partly along the route of the Hallingspretten ski race and eventually offers views of Hallingdal. After approx. 1.5 km from the underpass, you'll reach Hefte, where there is a clearly marked trail up towards Kulufossen.

There are several viewpoints by the waterfall. Take good care of the children, as the surrounding area is steep and slippery.

You can return the same way you came, or turn the hike into a round trip by walking down the west side of the waterfall. In this case, you first follow the path up to the quarry before turning towards Skjølet and down to the starting point.

Tips

Combine the tour with a coffee break, ice cream break or overnight stay at Topcamp Hallingdal, which is located right at the starting point.

The trip to the waterfall can be combined with a full day in the area. At Top Camp, you'll find a wide range of activities for young and old:

  • A large indoor playland
  • Climbing park
  • Adventure gold
  • And a bistro with outdoor seating during the summer season
