Trout fishing in Kvinda - zone 1

Kvinda is one of the top 10 rivers in the Trout Kingdom, perfect for fly fishing and big trout.

Kvinda is a small, crystal-clear trout river in Ål, with a light-coloured sandy bottom and gently flowing sections. The river starts at Stokksennvatnet, which is 952 metres above sea level, and flows about a mile down to Hallingdalselva.

Zone 1 is a 3.6 kilometre stretch from Rudhølen to Nysethølen, and contains 29 marked hollows and lochs. The river flows quietly through marshes and dense old-growth forest, with both deep and shallow sections. In many places, the river has a light-coloured sandy bottom, and in the clear water you can often see trout standing in the current. In some places, the river drops more steeply and forms small waterfalls and streams.

Only trout are found in Kvinda, and neither earwigs nor other species have been registered. The river has a lot of small fish, but every year several fish over 50 cm are caught.

Fishing licence

Only 6 fishing licences are issued per day in Zone 1. The fishing licences are valid for fishing with rods from shore. The licences can be purchased at Inatur.no.

Fishing rules

In zone 1, only 6 cards are placed each day.
In zone 2 there is unlimited card sales.
Domestic cards are reserved for residents of Hallingdal.

Fishing tips

The best fishing season is from mid-June to mid-July. Around Midsummer there are good hatches of mayflies, and thin, lifelike imitations work well. Land insects can also be effective. Worms and spinners are not permitted in Zone 1, but are used in Zone 2.

Access and practical info

Kvinda is easily accessible via Nasalivegen, with access from Kvinnegardslia. The river is divided into two zones with different fishing rules and fishing methods:

  • Zone 1 stretches from Rudhølen to Jøtohølen (3.6 km). It is a short distance from car to river, and wading is only permitted at marked fords.
  • Zone 2 located on both sides of Zone 1.

The river is easily accessible by car and the stretches are easy to walk along. Remember to follow the rules for wading and show consideration for the vulnerable riverbed.

Accommodation

Topcamp Hallingdal is the nearest accommodation, with cabins and campsites of a high standard. Ål Camping is a simpler alternative with tent and motorhome pitches, and is located a little further away. Both are located along the Hallingdalselva river and are a short drive from Kvinda.
