This is a classic mountain lake in Ål, surrounded by open countryside and small rivers. The water has both trout and whitefish, and the fishing can be very good throughout the season. There is no quota limit, but catch reporting is required after the trip.

Fishing tips
Nordre Øknevatni is particularly suitable for fishing with worms and flies. Lures and spinners are also good options. Local anglers report good catches when the technique is right, and variation between methods can give results throughout the day.
Directions
There are two alternative routes:
Via Oppheimsåsen
Turn off national road 7 towards Torpo and follow signs for Oppheimsåsen. Pass the toll booth (card payment) and drive approx. 7 km before turning right onto Øknemyrvegen. Follow this almost to the end, the lake is then on your right. Parking is marked in the map below.
Via Torpoåsen
Drive towards Torpoåsen, turn right at the barrier to Oppheimsåsen, and follow the road for approx. 5 km. Then follow signs for Øknin. The lake is then on your left. Parking is marked on the map below.
Accommodation
Opheim Guest House is located nearby and offers accommodation in a charming, historic house with roots dating back to the 1930s. The guest house has been in operation since the 1950s and is centrally located between the local shop and the stave church at Torpo - within easy driving distance of several fishing lakes on Oppheimsåsen.
