In this solo exhibition, Rolf Nesch's main work Herring Fishing takes centre stage - inspired by his experiences of herring fishing along the Møre coast in 1938. The encounter with coastal life and the work of the fishermen became a strong source of inspiration that characterised his art for many years.
The exhibition also includes works by Olav Strømme and Sigurd Winge, two of Nesch's friends and key figures in Norwegian art. At the same time, visitors will gain insight into the historical significance of herring fishing - both as a working life and as an artistic motif.
The art students at Ål kulturskule will be participating with their own work, which will be exhibited in the lower foyer, together with Ål municipality's graphic print of Sildefiske.
The evening will feature art, music and literature - with an opening speech by Inger Bråten, Head of Culture, greetings from the family by Kirsten Hjelle, a poetry reading by Lars Saabye Christensen and music by Ingunn Stræte.
