As a neurologist with an interest in skiing, Karl Otto Nakken has carried out an informal study of people who are passionate about skiing. He describes what characterises these people, what factors predispose them to the "condition", what symptoms and complications may arise and, not least, what "prognosis" they can envisage.
With a twinkle in his eye, Nakken also shares real-life stories, such as when one of his acquaintances was given an ultimatum: his wife or his skis. The choice ended in a "ski divorce".
According to Nakken, there is a preponderance of men affected by sciencephaly. Some are born with the condition, while others develop it in adulthood, and for the latter it can be particularly severe. The talk promises insight, entertainment and plenty of recognisable smiles for anyone with a love of skiing.
