The workshop begins with an introduction to the place of ink in Smaaskjær's artistic work. Participants start with an ink blot and examine what happens when the ink meets wet and dry paper. Along the way, the wet-on-wet technique, various tools, and different ways of making marks and lines are tried out.

The works are then built up in several layers. The participants get to explore the intuitive and accidental and follow how an image develops through the working process.

In the final section, forms from nature, such as a stone or a twig, are used as a starting point. The aim is to interpret lines, rhythms, structures, and forms in one's own way. The workshop concludes with the works being put together, allowing the participants to see the different expressions that have emerged.

Practical information

No prior knowledge is necessary.

A3-size watercolour paper, paper on a roll, ink, charcoal and drawing tools are included. The course instructor will also bring sticks, brushes, sponges and other tools from the studio.
