As early as 1991, Erlend Skomsvoll was advised to start a trio. The advice came from jazz legend Svein Finnerud, but it would take time before the format became a reality. In the years that followed, Skomsvoll established himself as one of Norway's most prominent musicians, known as a strong interpreter of others' music, a composer, bandleader and orchestrator.
He has collaborated with, among others, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Kaizers Orchestra, Mathias Eick, and Arve Tellefsen, and for many is also closely associated with the trio Come Shine, where he was both pianist and main arranger.
In the Erlend Skomsvoll Trio, jazz and classical stylistic understanding are combined in an expression that allows for both harmonic depth and melodic precision. The trio format gives Skomsvoll the opportunity to draw clear lines between classical music and jazz, and this evening, the audience will hear him interpret his own music, for the first time in this format.
