«Rolf Nesch and the world at sea» - Lecture by Øystein Ustvedt

In parallel with the Rolf Nesch memorial exhibition in Galleri Syningen, several activities are being organised to give the public more knowledge about both the artist and herring fishing - an important motif in Nesch's art. First up is an exciting lecture with art historian Øystein Ustvedt.

Øystein Ustvedt (b. 1965) graduated with an MA in art history from the University of Oslo in 1993. He was an art critic for Aftenposten from 1993 to 1995, curator at the Astrup Fearnley Museum from 1995 to 2001 and museum director at the Stenersen Museum from 2001 to 2003.

Since 2003, Ustvedt has been employed at the National Museum in various positions, mainly with responsibility for Norwegian visual art from the 20th century. He has curated a number of exhibitions and is the author of the books New Norwegian art. From 1990 (Fagbokforlaget, 2011) and Edvard Munch. An Inner Life (Thames & Hudson, 2020).

Ustvedt is coming to Ål kulturhus and Galleri Syningen to give the lecture «Rolf Nesch and the world out at sea». He will give an insight into Nesch's artistic work, with a particular focus on his fascination with the sea, fishing and the people who lived off it.

Welcome to an educational and inspiring evening about Rolf Nesch and his unique art!
