\u00c5l has many traces of the last ice age that are little known to most people. Throughout history, large stones and boulders have fired the imagination. Where do they come from, and why do they lie right where they do?<\/p>\n
Previously, stories of jots and trolls and the biblical flood, among other things, were used as explanations for the large stones. Today, we know that many of them are erratic boulders that have been transported over long distances by glaciers. Some remain as rocking stones and can be moved on a fulcrum despite weighing many tonnes.<\/p>\n
In the lecture, Johan Petter Nystuen takes a closer look at the ice-age landscape in \u00c5l, including dead-ice hollows, large erratic boulders and a rocking stone at Torpo. He also addresses the question of how such traces of the ice age can be preserved.<\/p>\n
Johan Petter Nystuen is a professor of geology at the University of Oslo and has extensive experience with the subject.<\/p>\n
